Tara is a first-generation TRiO & McNair scholar and alumna of the University of Nevada, Reno, where she received a B.S. and M.S. in Biology. As a science researcher, Tara traveled through the tropical forests of Central and South America, where she researched insect immune defenses and how those defenses are used against viral pathogens and parasitoids.
Passionate about diversity, equity, and inclusion, Tara uses outdoor science outreach to increase the representation and retention of traditionally underserved, first-generation BIPOC students in STEM. She is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in Science & Engineering Education with an emphasis in justice-centered learning of social and political issues in post-secondary STEM education.
Outside of her academic pursuits, she is a self-taught carpenter and enjoys spending time in her pollinator garden with her dog, cats, and chickens.
